BIM Mechanical Design Engineer

The BIM Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for delivering mechanical system designs using BIM tools as a platform for development, analysis, and coordination.

The role emphasizes engineering design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems throughout all project stages, ensuring compliance with international standards and project requirements. BIM is utilized to enhance design accuracy, coordination, and documentation

Key Responsibilities:* Develop mechanical system designs (HVAC, plumbing, firefighting) from concept to IFC stage using BIM tools.

• Perform cooling/heating load calculations, ventilation calculations, and equipment sizing in accordance with ASHRAE standards and project requirements.
• Design complete HVAC systems including:
• Chilled water systems / VRF / DX systems selection
• Duct sizing and layout
• Equipment selection (AHU, FCU, FAHU, pumps, fans)
• Design plumbing systems including:
• Domestic water supply sizing
• Drainage and vent systems
• Pump and tank sizing
• Design fire protection systems in accordance with NFPA codes (sprinkler, hose reel, fire pump sizing).
• Develop BIM models (LOD 200–300) as a design tool, ensuring accurate representation of calculated systems.
• Prepare and review:
• Design drawings
• Schematics and riser diagrams
• Equipment schedules
• Design reports and calculations
• Ensure all designs comply with:
• International codes and standards
• Perform design coordination with architectural, structural, and electrical disciplines.
• Conduct clash detection and resolve design conflicts proactively.
• Review contractor shop drawings and BIM models (LOD 400) against design intent and specifications.
• Support tender documentation and respond to technical queries during bidding stage.

Qualifications:* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

• 4–8 years of experience in MEP design within a consultancy environment.
• Proven experience in full design cycle (concept → IFC).⸻Technical Skills:* Strong knowledge of:
• HVAC design (load calculation, duct/piping design)
• Plumbing and drainage design
• Firefighting systems design
• Proficiency in:
• Autodesk Revit MEP (as a design tool, not only modeling)
• HAP or similar load calculation software
• Navisworks Manage (for coordination)
• Good knowledge of:
• ASHRAE standards
• NFPA codes
• Able to generate and manage COBie sheets from BIM models.

Core Competencies:* High attention to detail in both design and BIM models

• Effective communication in multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to critically review and validate contractor submissions
